Elf is a fantasy cat!

The history of the origin of the Elf cat breed.
The Elf breed was born not by chance, but as a result of purposeful crossing of the American curl and the Canadian sphynx. The idea of such an experiment was visited by American breeders-enthusiasts Karen Nilson and Kristen Lead back in the late 90s, but the first fruits of the experiment were literally born only in 2006 - unusual hairless kittens with backward–curving ears.
The catteries in which this exotic breed is bred are are mainly located in Russia, Spain and the USA. Connoisseurs of everything unusual also have a chance to acquire such wonderful pets.

The appearance of Elfes.

You will never confuse an elf with another breed – its distinctive and striking feature is the ears bent back, big as locators. They are combined with huge wide–open lemon–shaped eyes, often blue or green - all together this gives his muzzle a mysterious and unearthly look - well, just a guest from another planet! If the elf got unusual ears from his ancestor, the american curl, then the delicate, peachy skin, along with the lack of fear and developed musculature, came from the ancestor, the sphynx.
Elfes do not have such varieties of cover as flock, velour and brush. It is allowed to have fur only on the nose, on the ends of the paws and on the tip of the tail. And on all other parts of the body, either complete hairlessness, or there may be a "peach-like" fluff no longer than 2 mm. They feel like a warm suede heating pad.
The head is wedge-shaped with prominent cheekbones and mustache pads. Whiskers (vibris) are either completely absent, or short and broken off. The neck is slender, of medium length. Long limbs with oval paws and thick pads. The tail is flexible and long, proportional to the body. The body is of medium length, quite strong, muscular.
The body color of this breed can be any and is not regulated by the standard. Pay attention to the weight of the animal – adult elves can weigh up to 7 kilograms! So it's not a baby cat at all. But it will be 7 kilograms of pure tenderness.
Elfes are extremely patient, intelligent, observant animals. They got it from their majestic ancestor, the Canadian Sphynx. Elfes are very sensitive and affectionate to all members of the family in which they live, and to other pets. An elf's home is his fortress. On the other hand, elves love to be the center of attention – well, how can you resist if every evening you are greeted by a creature expressing insane delight when meeting you? Curious and frisky, the elf will conquer your household with irrepressible energy, fun and cheerfulness. And at night he will prefer to get closer to the owners – let him do it, and then there will be no happier creature in the world!
Health and care.
The Elf inherited good health from the American Curl. With proper maintenance and proper care, Elfes are able to live up to 18-19 years with an average life expectancy of 14-16 years. They need the same care as all hairless breeds: it is necessary to bathe the Elf regularly, about once every 1-2 weeks, with special shampoos for hairless cats or baby shampoos that will not cause discomfort to his delicate skin.

Elfes, like all sphynxes, have significantly accelerated metabolism due to the lack of wool. Consequently, they need food much more often than other cat breeds.
- feeding with natural food (BARF - meat, offal, vegetables, dairy products...)
- dry food feeding (professional cat food)
- mixed feeding (BARF + dry food)
Each owner decides for himself which of the feeding methods to adhere to. The main thing is that the food does not cause allergies in your pet. There should also always be a bowl of water freely available. We will consider the topic of feeding in more detail in a specially designated topic - "Nutrition of sphynx".
Despite the fact that sphynx have no fur, a person may still be allergic to their sweat, saliva or dandruff (dead skin particles) in the air.
Due to the lack of wool, you should also be careful when walking sphynx. Because they do not have such a luxurious warm fur coat as, for example, Siberians, you should not take them outside in the cold, try to avoid drafts and sudden hypothermia, because your pet may catch a cold. You should also avoid walking under the scorching sun in summer, because of which sunburn can form on the skin of the sphynx, as well as in humans.
